Brian Thomas is Republic’s Non-Executive Chairman. He is a non-executive director with several ASX-listed companies and has held Managing Director, Non-Executive Chairman and Director roles with numerous other ASX-listed companies over the past 10 years. This followed a 15-year career in financial services, having held director-level roles with an Australian bank, an international investment banking and funds management group and corporate stockbroker. Brian graduated from the University of Adelaide with a BSc in Mineral Economics, the University of Western Australia Business School with an MBA and the Securities Institute of Australia (now FinSIA)
Laurence is a Founder and Executive Director at Republic. His experience in funds management and comprehensive background in institutional commodities markets has driven the company’s best practice approach to investment management and continuing pursuit to build the asset manager of tomorrow. As well as beinga Director and involvement in the management of the firm, Laurence is a portfolio manager with Republic.
Wayne Johnson is Chairman and CEO of Noblemen Ventures, a corporate and investment advisory business based in Sydney. He is a highly-experienced corporate advisor, investor and non-executive director for public and private companies, with extensive knowledge, particularly in financial services, TMT and resources-related entities. Wayne is also co-founder of Foocaa, a Chinese consumer Internet business with over 2.5 million affluent households (circa six million consumers).
John has worked in Australian financial markets since the early 1980’s. His extensive career has covered funds management, investment banking and time at global institutions, Citigroup and Natwest Markets, as well as startup boutique managers. John has wonmultiple industry awards, and is recognised for his ability to understand and implement complex strategies and transactions. His experience of trading and investing over several market cycles has given him a true understanding of risk and return. John hasa Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Wollongong.
Parker is a Portfolio Analyst with Republic, specialising in quantitative research and data analytics.
He works with the investment team that makes decisions onall aspects of Republic's investment portfolios, including portfolio construction, testing, performance and risk monitoring, and efficient execution of investment strategies, to ensure that the portfolios meet their objectives.
Parker has worked with large institutional clients to develop portfolio investment strategies, and believes in a well-tested, scientific approach to investments. His most recent roles include Technical/Data Analyst at Sydney’s NASDAQ Group and FX Quantitative Strategist at Insight Investment (BNY Mellon). He has also worked as a Tutor at the University of Sydney, teaching fixed income securities.
He has a Master of Science in Finance from the London School of Economics (LSE) and a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Finance (Hons) from the University of Sydney.
Parker is passionate about working with companies that are bringing positive changes to the industry and helping people achieve their financial goals. He loves financial markets and enjoys solving thought-provoking problems.
Rob is a quantitative analyst with more than five years’ experience in finance and technology.
As a member of Republic's investment team, he focuses on portfolio construction, strategic asset allocation and other various forms of financial modelling.
Rob was previously a Quantitative Analyst at Bloomberg LP, providing clients with financial modelling and valuation solutions. He also co-founded AusFi Networks, a tech start-up and has worked as a Data Analyst at One Big Switch.
Rob has been responsible for developing and implementing hundreds of financial models across the buyside and sellside throughout Australia and New Zealand. By taking a hands-on, consultative approach, Rob has had the ability to influence businesses by working with key stakeholders in solving a broad range of complex problems.
He has a Bachelor of Business, Finance & Economics - Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, and is working towards a Master of Applied Finance from Macquarie University, Sydney.
Nathan is an experienced engineer with a background in big data, security and investment banking technology. As Republic’s Engineering Lead, he is responsible for aligning Republic's technology strategy with business objectives.
Nathan's experience ranges from building trading systems for large enterprises to cloud-based applications for start-ups. He began his career working in investment banking technology with Macquarie Group and UBS Investment Bank, and more recently has worked on building big data systems for Quantium and distributed security technology at Covata.
Nathan has worked on building one of Australia’s largest private big data clusters to process large workloads for a number of data partners including NAB, Woolworths and Foxtel. He also founded SentiMeasure, a stock market prediction tool using machine learning to extract market sentiment from social media data.
He has a passion for building big data and distributed computing systems, and enjoys the engineering challenges these problems present. He is a strong advocate of DevOps practices, agile software development and continuous improvement.
Nathan has a Bachelor of Computer Engineering (First Class Honours) from the University of Technology.
Andrei is a polyglot full-stack developer, specialising in back-end development and performance tuning.
As a Senior Software Engineer at Republic, Andrei isresponsible for the development of the backend part of our investment platform fund, integrating it with other systems to ensure that customers have a seamless experience.
In his previous roles he has developed enterprise-class applications, from initial prototype to go-live throughout the SDLC. He has experience in building large front office derivatives, trading and pricing system in Deutsche Bank with special needs for high performance, stability and latency. He has also been a key developer on several Woolworths loyalty projects, including developing REST APIs for its rewards site and designing large-scale databases to store all Woolworths' transactions.
Andrei has a Bachelor of Computer Science and Mathematics from Belarusian State University, Belarus and a Bachelor of Computer Engineering from the University of Mannheim, Germany.
He is passionate about being part of a great team and working with cutting edge technologies to design and create new products from scratch.
Prior to joining Republic, Victor participated in Europe’s largest startup competition, the Next Step Challenge, where he lived out of an accelerator program in Denmark for a year, winning the investor’s choice award with digital banking start-up, Cogni.
During his three years as Lead Developer at Cogni, Victor built a digital bank from the ground up. From fund raising, product design, UI/UX, to front and backend code, Victor is as full-stack as it gets.
Victor has a Bachelor of Information Technology from the University of Queensland (First Class Honours). He loves building products, front-to-back, and thinking about every detail of a user’s experience to create something that people will talk about.
Ryan is a digital interaction designer specialising in user experience and product design.
At Republic, he is responsible for the future of our brand, its identity, and our suite of products.
Ryan recently joined Republic from Uber, where he launched Uber's operations in Cairns and Townsville as part of the New Supply team who looked after driver growth in Queensland. He has several years' experience freelancing, where he has designed marketing and branding collateral for a range of small businesses, enterprises, student societies, local sporting clubs, bands, breweries, schools, lifestyle blogs, not-for-profits and charities, and built high performing ecommerce platforms that gross six figure incomes annually.
Ryan is inspired by minimalism and simplicity in design, and creating a brand identity that is synonymous with success. His passion for design is embodied by Kanye West's Tweet, "sometimes I get emotional over fonts".
Ryan has a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Interactive & Visual Design with a second major in Public Relations and Marketing from Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
Patrick is a junior engineer with expertise in React and AWS.
During his time at Republic, Patrick has been working on internal systems for the operations team, helping to build Republic's landing pages and a React based app for upcoming projects.
Patrick's background is in client operations within the superannuation industry in Australia. Seeking a career change, he recently completed a six-month intensive course in web development, and began interning at Republic immediately afterwards.
He has a Diploma of Software Development from Academy of Information Technology, and a Bachelor of Commerce in Professional Accounting from Macquarie University.
Patrick is passionate about learning and furthering his skills as an engineer. He is fascinated by companies who use new and emerging technology to create unique opportunities and breakthroughs.
Nick is a junior web developer with specialising in React, NodeJS, AWS.
Nick is working on a number of projects with the engineering team including internal systems, APIs, and Republic’s website.
Nick has previously worked at Bloomberg, where he helped improve the platform by sourcing financial data, and also helping clients increase their business by publishing pricing for securities on the Bloomberg Terminal. He has experience in financial technology, having helped some of Australia’s biggest banks implement data feeds for electronic trading, and government organisations to publish market moving announcements.
He has a Diploma of Software Development from AIT and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Adelaide.
Nick is passionate about coding, solving problems using technology, and exploring areas such as AI, and machine learning.
Andrew has more than 20 years’ operations experience within financial services, spanning across brokering, custody and platform services.
As head of Republic's operations team, Andrew works to fine tune operational efficiencies so that customers enjoy a seamless experience with our product.
Prior to joining Republic, Andrew spent more than 10 years at Royal Bank of Canada within custody operations helping to improve and evolve operational procedures, and several years working in broking operations within straight through processing (STP) developments.
He has been involved in several process improvement projects to streamline operations, including a role as Asia-Pacific lead, training and building an offshore team and implementing a global middleware platform in Malaysia.
Andrew has a passion for change and straight-through processing, and enjoys being involved in various process-improvement projects, from design to implementation. He has extensive leadership and training experience, and strong product knowledge across equities, options, futures, fixed income, and cash products.
Aaron is a qualified accountant with strong expertise in quantitative reports and financial operations.
As a Business Analyst at Republic, Aaron works with the operations team to build and maintain reliable, automated back office operations. He has played a pivotal role in developing Republic's CRM, ensuring trades have a clean and accurate record, and that clients have the best possible service experience.
In his previous accounting roles he has built solid tax return databases for 500+ clients and has extensive experience in optimising financial operations.
Aaron has a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Management and Systems from Xi’an University of Technology, China and a Master of Accounting from Curtin University, Australia.
Andrea is a senior account manager and operations analyst with more than 10 years’ experience in banking and finance. She works in Republic's operations team, liaising with advisers and processing client requirements for investment accounts.
In her previous roles, Andrea has worked as a preferential banker forhigh-value clients, and as a mortgage broker in Australia and Chile. She has worked across a broad variety of banking products, mastering the commercial and operational side and as a result, training bankers in more complex product structures such as homeloans and investments.
Andrea has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a Major in Accounting from Kaplan, Melbourne; a Degree of Business Administration from DUOC Catholic University in Santiago, Chile and a Certificate IV in Finance & Mortgage Broking from Kaplan, Sydney. She is also a member of the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA).
